Is Ray Allen Mad that He’s Not Popular?

Read an article today regarding Ray Allen and his thoughts about fans and their complete power to vote players into the NBA All-Star game.

“I like the fact that the fans get the opportunity to vote and pick who they’d like to see in the All-Star Game, but I don’t think it should be 100 percent”

Allen thinks that fans should only get 50% of the vote, with the remaining 50% being split between his NBA peers, and the media. Basically, Ray Allen thinks that it’s cute for the fans to vote for their favorite players, but please get someone with brains to actually pick the talent for this game. At last check, Allen was 4th in voting among the Eastern Conference guards, trailing Dwayne Wade, Allen Iverson, and Vince Carter.

Tracy McGrady, who is currently second in the Western Conference guard voting, despite hardly playing at all this season, drew some ire from Allen.

“Tracy, if he played, I’m sure he’d play well enough to be an All-Star player because he’s done that his career. But again, that’s taking away from another player in the Western Conference that’s having a great year, that’s been playing, that deserves to be in there.”

Sounds like Ray Allen is a little bit ticked that his painfully awful acting in He Got Game has not made him more popular amongst NBA fans.

I’m not saying I disagree with Ray Allen regarding this issue, because there are some players who will get the shaft because of picking favorites over more deserving players (ie. Joe Johnson, possibly Aaron Brooks in the West)

But it is what it is, the All-Star game, as cheesy as it sounds, is all about the fans, and if they don’t care to see Ray Allen start in the game, then I’m sorry, Ray, you’re just not cool enough. The fans want to see dunks and crossovers, not a boring sharpshooter nailing five treys in a meaningless game. If there were higher stakes in this game, like there is in baseball, I believe his argument would come to life a little bit more, but it’ll stay this way as long as the games popularity remains the way it has.

Let’s stop arguing, though, and just enjoy the playground scene from he got game. Please take note of Ray’s incredible acting ability. Since the clip is fairly long, just go to the 2:59 mark and watch how unathletic of a shot that Denzel puts up. It’s actually pretty embarrassing.

  1. You do realize that many critics have argued that this man is easily the greatest professional athlete turned actor to ever be in a movie, right? Granted that this movie was crap, mostly from unnecessary scenes and professional actors other than Allen and Washington, many critics have said exactly the opposite of what you have said.

As for Denzel’s shot at 2:59, that WILL happen even on the NBA hardwood. 6′ man with no legs on the post with a 6’5″ man in the prime of his athleticism giving reverse force which is typical of post defense? Of course he’s not going to Weiss it and he will be lucky if he is not rejected.

You know, if you weren’t simply a wanna-be sports columnists plastering several walls of text on the internet about how ‘sad’ he is everyday, maybe you could open your eyes and realize that every day, your articles are about you bitching about something in the world of sports. Perhaps you might even actually physically pick up a sport and get a little insight on the things you see on T.V.

By the way, hyperlinking a paragraph is a visually mind-boggling thing to do. Good luck with your attempt at internet fame. WordPress, we give you the layout and you choose the plainest font to accompany the plainest header. Don’t quit your day job.

  2. Thanks Rob for your very well thought out and insightful comment.

This post was made in jest. I’m sorry that you are so incredibly offended by it. However for the record, most of my posts aren’t about me bitching about something in the sports world, perhaps if you read more you’d see that.

Unfortunately my day job currently consists of me eating hot dogs with ketchup and my preference between spicy mustard or regular yellow mustard. It’s a hard life but I feel as though I’m living out the whole “work from mama’s couch” blogger stereotype quite well.

Again, my apologies that you got offended but I hope when you re-read your comment you realize that you said the word “greatest” and the name “Ray Allen” in the same sentence while describing his acting. Nuff said.
