Yeah, Cliff Lee is gone, but that won’t stop me from singing his praises from across the country.
Today exemplified the reason why Philadelphia Phillies fans embraced Cliff Lee. He was ejected from a Spring Training game for supposedly “head hunting” at Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder. Snyder who hit an amazing .200 last season had collided earlier in the game with Lee while he was backing up home plate.
While you don’t do these things in Spring Training, you also don’t get in the way of one Cliff Lee during a routine play at home plate. He’s a Cy Young award winning pitcher, you’re a catcher who just hit .200 in a season, know your role, peasant.
While Lee was probably in the wrong, that kind of passion is why the Philadelphia fan base embraced him so well during his three month stay in South Philadelphia. We as Philadelphia fans appreciate that type of intensity and had that game been played in Citizen’s Bank Park, you better believe that crowd would of cheered Clifton immediately afterward.
Opening Day is just three weeks away, plan accordingly, folks.
